ADVERTISING TO CHILDREN

There is mounting concern about the impact of advertising on children and young adults. The argument is that children and young adults are easily manipulated and impressionable and that advertising cleverly finds ways to put pressure on the young. Should kids be exposed to commercial messages? The Governments in Denmark and Greece are already planning to ban any toy adverts on daytime children's TV. On the other hand, if it is legal to advertise to adults, why should children be handled any differently? Children can be just as responsible and discerning as adults, and sometimes more so. Why treat children differently? What do you think? Should our country follow this lead and ban any advertising using or for children under the age of 18?
