Oscar Pistorius was sentenced this Tuesday to five years in prison for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius shot his girlfriend, Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day last year through a toilet door in his home. Pistorius testified that the shooting was an accident because he mistook his girlfriend for a burglar. After deliberation Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide, or negligent killing, but he was acquitted for murder.
His sentence starts immediately however the sentence provides that his prison term be a maximum of five years and that Pistorius could be eligible for house arrest after serving eight months in jail.
It is proposed that The sentence given to Pistorius does not depict the severity of the crime that he committed
