It would appear that children from non-religious households are more compassionate!

Research by Decety et al (2015) concluded that children from non-religious households were more altruistic and children from religious households were more intolerant and harsher in their judgments of others.

“Overall, our findings cast light on the cultural input of religion on prosocial behavior and contradict the common-sense and popular assumption that children from religious households are more altruistic and kind toward others. More generally, they call into question whether religion is vital for moral development, supporting the idea that the secularization of moral discourse will not reduce human kindness—in fact, it will do just the opposite” (p. 2953)    Download Article

What do you think?

It is proposed that it is how children are socialised that determines their level of compassion for others
